Try some Heavenly Apple Crumble made with Heavenly Jam Bar Mix from the Three Angels Gourmet Co.

HEAVENLY APPLE CRUMBLE
3 medium apples (any kind for baking)
1/2 tsp. powdered cinnamon
1/3 c. water
1 stick butter
1 pkg. Heavenly Jam Bar Mix
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Peel and core apples. Chop them into bite-sized pieces and set them aside. Spray an 8″x8″ baking pan with cooking spray, then line the bottom of the pan with the apple pieces. Pour the water into the pan with the apples, then sprinkle the apples with the cinnamon. Put 1 stick of butter in a microwave safe mixing bowl. Melt the butter in the microwave, then pour the jam bar mix into the melted butter and mix together well (this will make a crumbly mixture). Pour the crumbly mixture over the apples in the baking pan and pat down. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes (or until crumbly mixture is brown around the edges and apples are soft).
Serve the crumble topped with vanilla ice cream, or whipped cream, if desired.

A Dilly of a Rub for Fish…
TODAY’S FOOD TIP
If you’ve tried our Divine Dill Dip Mix as a dry rub for chicken, then you know what a delicious rub it is. Now…try it as a dry rub for fish. It’s easy to do. Pour a little olive oil directly onto the fish, then sprinkle with enough dry Divine Dill Dip Mix to coat the fish and gently rub it into the meat. Place the fish in a plastic bag or cover with plastic wrap and put it in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, drain the oil from the fish, then bake, broil, or fry as usual. M-m-m…Yum!

Treat Your Children to Afternoon Tea!
TODAY’S FOOD TIP – COOKING WITH KIDS
When my two sons (who are now 25 and 27) were children, on Sundays we used to assemble everything for a weekly afternoon tea to create our very own little tearoom. We put a fresh cloth on the dining room table, gathered fresh herbs or flowers from the backyard and made a centerpiece, then got out the “good” china and set the table for tea.
The whole family enjoyed this relaxing time together when we sampled all sorts of delicious foods and discussed activities for the week ahead. I also used these weekly tea parties to teach my sons table manners.
To create a Sunday afternoon tea with your own children, bake or buy some scones, cookies, and tarts. Try to introduce your children to some foods they have never eaten before – delicate salmon and cream cheese sandwiches, or crisp Scottish shortbread you can purchase in tins at your local gourmet food store. Take the children with you when you go to the gourmet food store and let them choose a few foods they would like to sample at your next afternoon tea.
Then, don’t forget to set a beautiful table. The children can even make some placecards, if they’d like. And be sure to have a pretty teapot for the tea. If you don’t own a teapot, you’ll find all sorts of them at flea markets (I even found a musical one at my local flea market and the kids used to love to wind it up and listen to it play music as they poured the tea).
You might also take your children to some local tearooms. View www.teamap.com for a directory of tea rooms all across the country.
Try some of our delicious scone mixes for your afternoon teas. M-m-m…yum!

Teach Your Children What REAL Food Looks Like!
TODAY’S FOOD TIP – COOKING WITH KIDS

Did you see the episode of Dateline the other night when children were presented with two food choices – one food that was plain, the other decorated with a popular cartoon character?
This was a rather disturbing episode.
First, young children were presented with two cupcakes. Both chocolate, but one with plain chocolate frosting, the other with chocolate frosting plus SpiderMan’s picture made of colorful icing.
When asked which cupcake the children would choose, they all chose the SpiderMan Cupcake.
When asked why, they simply said, “because it has SpiderMan on it, so it will taste better.”
Next, the children were offered a banana decorated with colorful stickers of cartoon characters, and a chocolate cupcake with no decorations.
Each of the children chose the banana with the stickers over the cupcake because “It has Scooby Doo on it.”
That sounded interesting.
If we want our children to make better food choices – fruits over cupcakes, for example – we merely need to put some cartoon stickers on the fruit.
But things got more disturbing.
Next, a large rock was decorated with stickers. Children were presented with this rock and a plain, undecorated banana.
They were asked, “Which item would you rather EAT for breakfast – this rock or the banana?”
The children all chose, “the rock.”
The lady asking the children the questions wanted verification, “You would rather EAT this rock for breakfast rather than the banana. Is that correct?”
And the children shook their heads in agreement.
Man. Maybe we need to teach our children what REAL food looks like.
Real food doesn’t have stickers of Scooby Doo or illustrations of SpiderMan on it.
I’ll bet many children don’t realize that most food comes from the ground or off a tree or bush or vine.
My food tip for today is this: Take a field trip to the grocery store or a local farmer’s market and introduce your children to REAL food. Food that doesn’t come with stickers of cartoon characters.
It’s very apparent that advertisers are heavily influcencing your children’s food choices. Is that what you want?
Which would you choose for breakfast – the rock decorated with Scooby Doo stickers, or the plain banana?
Think about it.
Try Some Broccoli Sprouts!
TODAY’S FOOD TIP

Everyone knows broccoli has many health benefits. But what you might not know is, even if you don’t like the taste of broccoli you might enjoy broccoli sprouts. Plus, broccoli sprouts contain a powerful anticancer compound called sulforaphane.
You’ll find broccoli sprouts at health food stores but you can also google “broccoli sprouts” and find several places to purchase them online.
Liven up a salad or sandwich with a few broccoli sprouts and give yourself a healthy dose of antioxidants, too.
